Our May top ten chart is here; an opportunity to look back to last year having just been released from lockdown, but any similarities end there. The consistent warm and sunny weather had arrived early last April with no sign of stopping. This year is far from the same, overcast days (not so bad) and bitter winds early on has kept air and water temperatures low - potentially helping some decent fishing further into the summer before the heat/oxygen levels start to hinder; but it's the wind which has put a spanner in the works on a fair few occasions this season already.
While conditions are a little later this season (and earlier last year), fly activity has certainly ramped up now, so well worth venturing out to seize the opportunity if/when you can.
Needless to say, various Mayflies have made it into the chart this month, along with the Klinkhammer Olive and the Gold Ribbed Hares Ear making it to 1st & 2nd spot respectively.
